 THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE, book by Richard Morris & Dick Scanlan, music by Jeanine Tesori, lyrics by Dick Scanlan is the second musical forming Kilworth House Theater’s 2016 season. Produced by Celia McKay, the director is Stephen Mear and the musical director by John Morton. Auditions are in London from 11-15 April. London rehearsals are from Monday 18 July – Saturday 6 August 2016, the company arrive at Kilworth House on Monday 8 August; the dress is on Monday 15 August with first performance on 16 August, closing on Sunday 11 September, a total of 33 performances (Saturday & Sunday matinees plus matinee on Wednesday 24 August / No Monday performance A stunning open air theatre in the heart of the thirty-eight acre Kilworth estate, this 540 seat theatre, now in its their season, is dedicated to large scale professional productions of musical theatre. The theatre is the brainchild of Celia Mackay, owner of the award-winning and luxurious Kilworth House Hotel, beautifully situated amidst the rolling countryside of South Leicestershire. The 540 seat theatre is protected against the elements by a magnificent sail-like canopy, as is the stage area, so that no performance need ever be cancelled because of adverse weather. Indeed their motto is “Kilworth House Theatre – where rain won?t stop play”. PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR DETAILS OF CONTRACT AND FEE INFORMATION. PRINCIPALS ROLES: MILLIE DILLMOUNT: Millie is an appealing, honest, feisty, unique young woman. Undeterred by her Midwestern upbringing & naivete, she arrives in New York determined to acquire big city sophistication and a rich husband. She is a pragmatist who dreams big. ALTO/MEZZO. Playing age 18-25. JIMMY SMITH: An irrepressible, buoyant personality, he loves to have a good time. He’s a suave city slicker who unexpectedly becomes the story’s hero. TENOR. Playing age 20-30. MISS DOROTHY BROWN: A classic old-fashioned beauty looking for life, as preparation for a career on the stage. A naive, wealthy girl who has moved to New York to change her lifestyle. She becomes Millie’s roommate and confidant. SOPRANO. Playing age 18-25. TREVOR GRAYDON: Millie’s boss at Sincere Trust Insurance, handsome, sharp, efficient and secretly romantic. He falls hard for Miss Dorothy. TENOR. Playing age 30+. MRS. MEERS: Striking and sinister, a former actress turned human trafficker pretending to be a kindly Chinese woman. ALTO. Playing age 40+. MUZZY VAN HOSSMERE: Glamorous, big-hearted, fun loving, and wise, a singer at a night club. She becomes Millie’s friend and mentor. ALTO. Playing age 40+. SMALLER ROLES/ENSEMBLE BUN FOO: A Chinese immigrant working to bring his mother to the United States. Older brother of Ching Ho and henchman to Mrs. Meers. Sings and speaks in Chinese. Should be able to sound authentic. Comic character. TENOR/BARITONE. Playing age 20-30. Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010; (Occupational Requirements) applies CHING HO A Chinese immigrant working to bring his mother to the United States. Younger brother of Bun Foo and henchman to Mrs. Meers. Sings and speaks in Chinese. Should be able to sound authentic. Comic character. TENOR/BARITONE. Playing age 18-30. Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010; (Occupational Requirements) applies FEMALE ENSEMBLE: PRISCILLA GIRLS AND STENOGRAPHERS: Excellent trained singers and dancers (including tap) to play in the ensemble and some small roles as aspiring actresses at the Hotel Priscilla and Stenographers at Sincere Trust Insurance. One (Ruth) could be a larger build, and another (Gloria) could be older than the others. Otherwise all should be playing age 18-25. MISS FLANNERY An uptight, stern office manager. She runs the stenographer pool at Sincere Trust Insurance Company. Excellent singer, dancer and actor to play in the ensemble and this cameo role. ALTO. Playing age 30+. DOROTHY PARKER: Rude, stuck-up socialite who demeans everyone around her. Doubles with ETHEL PEAS. Excellent singer, dancer and actor to play in the ensemble and these cameo roles. ALTO TO SOPRANO. Playing age 20-30. MALE ENSEMBLE MALE MODERNS AND MUZZY’S BOYS : Excellent trained singers and dancers (including tap) to play in the ensemble and some small roles as the Male Moderns and Muzzy’s Boys. TENOR TO BARITONE. Playing age 18-30. GEORGE GERSHWIN: Guest at Muzzy’s party trying to find inspiration for a song. Baritone. Excellent singer, dancer and actor to play in the ensemble and this cameo role. Playing age 20-35. RODNEY: A young society man who enjoys fancy parties, he’s a guest at Muzzy’s party who knows Dorothy and nearly gives the game away. Excellent dancer, singer and actor to play in the ensemble and this cameo role. Playing age 18-25.
